CDC Requests Help in Pig-Slaughter Neuropathy

| | Comments (0) | TrackBacks (0)
The CDC is requesting the assistance of practicing US neurologists to identify potential cases of neuropathy or myelopathy in individuals associated with the pig-slaughter industry. (Previous discussion and speculation at the Pathophilia blog regarding the illness can be found here.) Further information from the CDC suggests that the clinical and electrodiagnostic findings of affected persons indicate the presence of an inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy, affecting primarily motor nervesfindings which are consistent with an acute inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (AIDP, aka Guillain-Barre syndrome [GBS]) or chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP).
