North Face, aka Nordwand (2008): Without Climashield, HyVent, or even goose down, four Socialist Party mountaineers—2 German, 2 Austrian—attempt the vertical brutality of the Eiger's north face in low-tech, woolen-mitten fashion, circa 1936. The movie, based on true events, stumbles in its inclusion of a fictional romance but prevails superbly in the filming of mountaineering sequences—none of which looks computer generated or even enhanced.
