Bright Star
(2009): What may at first seem like a competent, if formulaic, period piece by Jane Campion (The Piano) becomes, in actuality, a moving portrait of an all-consuming love between poet John Keats and his muse Fanny Brawne. And what ever-so-subtly invigorates Bright Star is Abbie Cornish's deft portrait of the stylish Brawne, who transforms from a vain, insecure teenager to a worthy subject of the best lines of Romantic literature.
