Kick-Back Friday: #201
Perrier’s Bounty (2009): Yes, fine. It may be just another ultraviolent rom-com from Ireland, in the spirit of the savage and savagely funny stories of the McDonagh brothers. But as these derivative ultraviolent rom-coms from Ireland go, it’s a very, very decently acted one. In particular, it’s easy to forget the commanding skills of Jim Broadbent (who seems to be perpetually outshone by his English contemporary, Tom Wilkinson [who’s not in this movie*]). Breedan Gleeson gives a capable, if throwaway, performance as the brutish Perrier, and Cillian Murphy lends a fine turn as the unceasingly harassed bounty. And if you can guess the voice of the narrator before the credits roll, you’re a better person than me.
* Because there are no American characters in it.
